Follow Up Text: Should You Send One Right After the First Date?

Words by

Should you or should you not send a follow up text message after the first date? Well, a lot of people clearly have very different opinions regarding this issue. Some would definitely say that you should go for it while some will advise you against doing it. So, what do you think you should do?

To Send or Not to Send a Follow Up Text Message

Sending a text message after a first date that went extremely well comes quite natural to some people. Some do it right after the date while some prefer to send a follow up text message after a day or two since texting right away may send the wrong vibrations. These people believe that doing so may just scare the other person off.

However, a lot of people now believe that sending text messages right after the first date can be a great way to keep the communication going. It can be an ideal way to keep in touch with that special person whom you have gone out with for the first time. Needless to say, it can help you get a chance to go out with that special girl or guy for a second date – if you do it right. So, how do you do it? Here are some tips that can help you achieve your goals.

Tips in Sending Follow Up Text Messages

Your text messages can either make or break the chance of getting a second date so you better do it right! To make sure you send the right vibrations, here are some suggestions that you may want to consider:

Be creative. If you were to send a follow up text message to your date, make sure you come up with something creative to keep the conversation going. Keep your messages light and interesting, while dropping an ever so subtle hint that you would love spending some time with him (or her) again. Send a boring message and you will most likely blow your chances away.

Thank your date. It is a good idea to let your date know that you enjoyed spending the time with him (or her). If your date feels the same way, he or she will be thrilled to hear from you. So, what if the feeling is not mutual? What if your date didn’t enjoy the time he or she spent with you the way you did? Well, in that case, just consider that you’ve sent a text message as a polite gesture and move on.

Be a little more daring. Talking about mundane things may not effectively communicate your interest so go ahead and try to flirt a little! You may want to try sending a mildly suggestive message just to stir things up a notch. However, make sure you don’t come off too strong or you may scare him (or her) away or get the wrong notions altogether. Just drop subtle hints that you find him (or her) attractive and see what happens next.

Do you think these tips will work? Well, if your date finds you interesting, he (or she) will most likely reply to your messages without letting you wait – unless he (or she) is rather quite busy when your message came or your date lost his (or her) phone.

Now, if you happen to succeed in keeping the conversation going, should you ask for a second date using the same method (texting)? Well again, there are different opinions regarding this issue, too. Some people find this to be quite acceptable while some think that second dates should be settled on the phone. What do you think?

Good luck in keeping the conversation going,
